Scribner Plastics transitions manufacturing from California to Texas

Scribner Plastics Inc., a family-owned rotational molding company, has relocated from Rancho Cordova, Calif., to Victoria, Texas, and is now fully operational at its new site.

"We did it real quick," said Rick Scribner, owner of Scribner Plastics. "We've completely moved out of California now, and we're in full operation in Texas — which was a big undertaking because we're moving the big molding machines and everything."

The company specializes in reusable shipping containers, barrier systems, and engine and transmission shipping containers.

The relocation took about a year from the property purchase to the facility becoming operational. Most customers stocked up before the move, but Scribner said the company is still catching up on orders.

"Of course, our customers got really busy, and the stock-up didn't last long," Scribner said. "You plan for this, you plan for that, and then all of a sudden, the unexpected happens. My customers are doing well."

One major reason for the move was that Scribner no longer had many customers in California, making a more central U.S. location a more economical choice.

Along with the relocation, Scribner added a new rotational molding machine. The company continues to expand its automotive shipping container line and expects to announce further developments later this year.

Scribner Plastics is No. 91 in Plastics News' ranking of North American rotational molders, with annual sales of $2.6 million.
