Röhm Opens Texas MMA Feedstock Plant, Closes Louisiana Production

Röhm America LLC has closed a plant making acrylic feedstock methyl methacrylate (MMA) in Louisiana, but opened a plant making the same material in Texas.
In a news release, officials with Röhm America in Parsippany, N.J., said the MMA plant in Westwego, La., closed at the end of June. That move was announced two years ago as part of the firm's long-term strategic transformation.
The closing was timed to coincide with the opening of an MMA plant in Bay City, Texas. That plant has annual production capacity of around 550 million pounds and is now operational.
The Bay City plant uses Röhm's proprietary LiMA technology, which officials said delivers higher yields and lower carbon dioxide emissions compared with traditional production. The new plant also strengthens supply security for Röhm's global customer base, they added. Most MMA demand generated by Röhm customers now is being met from the Bay City site.
Röhm America is a unit of Röhm GmbH, a global acrylic materials and products maker — including the Plexiglas brand — based in Darmstadt, Germany. Röhm employs almost 3,000 and posted sales of nearly $2 billion in 2024.
